In order to secure his spot as No.1 contender in the crowded welterweight division, Johny Hendricks had to get through “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit, when they met at UFC 158: St. Pierre vs. Diaz.
Condit had just fought for five-rounds with Hendricks’ next opponent George St. Pierre (UFC 154), where Condit reminded you why he was such a fan favorite. Even in defeat, he pushed Pierre to his limits and put him in his most entertaining match he’s had in years and years. He would do the exact same for Hendricks, too, answering every left hand either with a combo of his own, or a well-placed jumping knee.
UFC President Dana White thinks Hendricks’ win over Condit couldn’t have been any better for the next welterweight title challenger
“I think the best thing that could have ever happened to him was fighting Carlos Condit before fighting Georges St. Pierre. Because that fight took him to another level.”
UFC 167: St. Pierre vs. Hendricks is set to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in what will be Pierre’s first fight outside of his home country since 2010.
