UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been talking about a move to the heavyweight division for several months now.
Tuesday, sitting right next to UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, “Bones” didn’t seem that interested in going up in weight classes.
“No,” Jones said. “I have a lot to do in the light heavyweight division. Would you guys fight him (pointing to Velasquez). He’s huge.”
Jones will defend his title against Alex Gustafsson at UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson in September, and stated a few moments later during the press conference that he was just joking in regards to the move.
“Eventually, I am going to move,” he said. “I just didn’t want it to be awkward next to (Velasquez). I am getting stronger, older.”
Velasquez and Jones both captured NJCAA national championships while helping lead Iowa Central Community College to gold on the wrestling mats.
