Ricardo Lamas was disappointed when he missed out twice on a featherweight title shot for UFC 163. He thought wins over Erik Koch and Cub Swanson earned him the No. 1 contender spot.
“I beat two guys who were promised title fights,” said Lamas on The MMA Hour. “I don’t know any other 145-pound contender who has done that. Cub hasn’t done it, Frankie [Edgar] hasn’t done it, Chad [Mendes] hasn’t done it. So, really, in my mind, I’m the No. 1 contender and I think I deserve a shot at the title.”
The first featherweight title shot went to Anthony Pettis, who fell to injury. He was replaced with the “Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-Sung.
Lamas won all four of his UFC fights since cutting to featherweight. Three of those came via stoppage.
“The Bully” was pulled from UFC 163 when Chan-Sung was put in the main event.
