Ronda Rousey wasn’t able to make the fight with Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos happen, but Miesha Tate could be a different story. Tate needs to beat Rousey for the belt to make this idea possibly happen.
“I would for sure take the fight, but I would prefer her to come down [in weight] to fight,” said Tate during a UFC on FOX 8 Q&A. “I would definitely want her to come down because I don’t walk much above 135 (pounds), and she’s already got a huge strength advantage. So that would be fair, in my opinion.”
Santos was the women’s featherweight champion for Strikeforce before a suspension. She opted not to join the UFC when Strikeforce closed and instead went to Invicta FC. She’s taken two wins for them with the latest seeing her win their featherweight championship.
Tate dropped the belt to Rousey last year, while under the Strikeforce banner. She’s replacing an injured Cat Zingano.
The women’s bantamweight title fight is the co-main event of UFC 168. It’s December 28 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
