Jorge Masvidal Cranked Extra Hard With Seconds Remaining In The Round

Jorge Masvidal had the d’arce choke locked on Michael Chiesa in the closing moments of round two at UFC on FOX 8. With one second on the clock, Chiesa tapped from the pressure.

“When I heard the ‘clap, clap,’ I started cranking to not waste time,” said Masvidal to MMA Fighting. “He went limp for a second, but I’m not sure. I started squeezing and the referee was already over me. I wasn’t sure if he stopped it before the tap or bell.”

With the win, Masvidal wants a Top 10 lightweight fighter to further his career. It was his third straight win with two out of the UFC. He was a former Strikeforce lightweight title challenger.

It was the first time Chiesa was defeated. At 9-1, The Ultimate Fighter winner had a pair of submission wins heading into this one. After the loss, Chiesa left the Octagon before the winner could be announced.

The KeyArena in Seattle, WA hosted UFC on FOX 8. It was this past Saturday, July 27.
