Yaotzin Meza was close to tapping to John Albert, but ended the opening round with his own guillotine submission. He nearly had the win and felt the bell saved Albert. It wouldn’t matter, as round two saw Meza secure a rear-naked choke for the win.
“I was close to submitting him,” said Meza to MMA Fighting. “I had it tight and he started getting slippery. The bell saved him and it was a good defensive move.”
After 28 career fights, Meza earned his first UFC win. His other UFC fight was a loss to the highly ranked Chad Mendes and on short notice.
Albert is 1-5 for the UFC and has dropped four in a row by submission.
They opened UFC on FOX 8 with their bout on Facebook. It came from the KeyArena in Seattle, WA on Saturday, July 27.
