Liz Carmouche vs. Jessica Andrade
We open up the main card with a female bantamweight match between Liz Carmouche (8-3) and Jessica Andrade (9-2). Carmouche was originally expected to face Miesha Tate, but she was removed to compete on The Ultimate Fighter as a coach and face Ronda Rousey for the title later this year at UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva 2. Herb Dean, who will be busy tonight, serves as the referee.
Round 1: Carmouche and Andrade are going right after each other, as most female fighters seem to do. Carmouche scores with a takedown, works in the over-under, but can’t keep her down. Trip takedown by Carmouche and into half-guard, as it has been all “Girlrilla” so far. Into side control, and Carmouche spiders onto the back. Andrade flips her over and lands some nice ground-and-pound, looking to secure a guillotine with 90 seconds left. Andrade working hard for this submission, but she could be tiring herself out trying to secure it, as well.
FightLine scores the round 10-9 for Andrade
Round 2: Carmouche starts the round with a quick, powerful takedown, her third of the match. Into the full mount, hammering away, is Carmouche. She has her flattened out and the hooks while on Andrade’s back, firing huge lefts and rights. Carmouche goes for a rear-naked choke, and Andrade breaks free, but is still mounted by an aggressive Carmouche. Vicious elbows from Carmouche to the head, as the ref warns her to fight back. Again to the mount, peppering her with rights and lefts as we go under two minutes. Carmouche rolls Andrade back over and lands lefts and rights, forcing the ref to step in and call it.
