UFC On FOX 8: Michael Chiesa Vs. Jorge Masvidal

Michael Chiesa vs. Jorge Masvidal

It’s main event time….well, FX prelim main event time, that it, as Michael Chiesa (9-0) will put his undefeated record on the line against Jorge Masvidal (24-7), who has only lost once in his last five fights – with that coming at the hands of Gilbert Melendez for the Strikeforce lightweight title. Dan Miragliotta serves as the referee.

Round 1: Chiesa receives a thunderous ovation, as he hails from nearby. The former Ultimate Fighter winner quickly goes for a double-leg takedown, switches to a single and gets it, but Masvidal is in a good position to move to the back. Chiesa stuns Masvidal and goes in for the finish, looking to lock up a guillotine, but Masvidal powers out and attacks. Big kick to the body, followed by several punches, from Masvidal. Chiesa with a left, as he is showing off an improved striking game. Excellent combo from Chiesa, who is throwing lefts, rights and kicks in bunches. Masvidal with a huge kick to the body that nearly doubles up Chiesa, but he comes back.

FightLine scores the round 10-9 for Chiesa

Round 2: Just like his corner asked, Chiesa mixes levels and scores with a takedown. Masvidal, though, gets in good position and locks in a guillotine, but Chiesa slips his way free just as Joe Rogan is saying it is in tight. That’s the curse of death for a fighter with a submission locked in:) Masvidal on top with two minutes to go in this round, as Chiesa is rolling to the right, looking for either a way up or a submission, but Masvidal sees this and uncorks with rights and elbows. Masvidal with a vicious knee to the body, forcing him back to his own back. Chiesa rolls, gives up his back, and is eating more lefts and rights. Masvidal working for a choke, and he gets it with just a second left in the round. Chiesa, obviously upset, storms out of the Octagon immediately following the tap, not waiting for the official decision.

Jorge Masvidal def. Michael Chiesa via submission (D’arce choke) at 4:59 of Round 2
