UFC On FOX 8: Aaron Riley Vs. Justin Salas

Aaron Riley vs. Justin Salas

To the lightweight division we go as Aaron Riley (30-13-1) looks to make it 3-3 in his last six against Justin Salas (10-4). The referee in charge, again, will be Randy Corley.

Round 1: Pair of southpaws in this one, which could make things a little more interesting. Salas lands a swift kick to the abdomen, and another, but has swelling under his right eye – possibly from an inadvertent poke. Again, Salas gets poked in the same eye, but fights through it, and fires off a pair of rights. Riley gets a little too out of control and gets taken down, but works quickly to his feet. Left connects from Riley, who continues to push and tempo. Salas with another takedown, but can’t keep Riley on the mat for long. Salas finishes strong with a flying knee and a high kick.

FightLine scores the round 10-9 for Riley

Round 2: Third takedown connects by Salas, but like the first two, Riley quickly to his feet. Riley continuing to press the action and cut off the Octagon, but Salas is working his counters to perfection, proceeding to clinch and land some nice knees to the body. Riley’s got blood pouring from his nose, likely from a shot inside that previous clinch. Riley throws a kick and Salas knocks him down. Salas switching his stances to keep Riley off balance, moving and striking from all positions.

Round 3: I’ve got this one tied up after two, but who knows what the actual judges are thinking. They exchange big hooks, with Salas getting the better of that one. Riley gets poked in the eye this time, and the ref sees it, causing a break in the action. Salas is probably wondering where his timeouts were in the second after two eye pokes. Under two minutes to go and Riley catches him with a high kick, forcing Salas to back up. Salas with a combo of two strikes and a knee to the body. Riley with a head kick that lands full-force, and throws another that just misses. Salas tries for a suplex, but Riley gets free and throws his hands in the air. Salas and Riley exchange and we go to the scorecards.
