Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. have been rumored for a boxing contest later this year. Though nothing is confirmed, more should be known at Bellator 97, where both fighters are expected to be.
Jackson’s manager Anthony McGann wouldn’t give details, only saying everything will be known shortly.
“We’ve been talking to Roy and his people about a potential Rampage vs. Roy Jones Jr. fight for over seven months,” said McGann to MMA Fighting. “If it happens, it would be an incredible fight. Boxing and MMA have both been discussed, and [Bellator CEO] Bjorn [Rebney] has been in these discussions every step of the way.”
Jackson hasn’t fought since completing his UFC contract in January. He signed a deal with Viacom last month. Jones is 44-years-old and his last boxing match was over a year ago.
Bellator 97 is July 31 from the Santa Ana Center in Albuquerque, NM.
