Some fighters have spoken out about the UFC pay, or lack of one. Lightweight Joe Lauzon couldn’t complain with how the UFC treats him.
“We’re paid fighters, so getting in to the UFC doesn’t mean you’re gonna have this cushy job,” said Lauzon on The Metro South Morning Show. “You get paid based on how your performance goes. I’ve been very fortunate where I have had some great fights and I’ve been rewarded with some bonuses. I couldn’t be happier with the pay structure.”
Lauzon has a record 12 post-fight bonuses for the UFC, which is tied with Anderson Silva for the most. Lauzon owns six for Submission of the Night, five Fight of the Night and one Knockout of the Night. In 2012, he took Fight of the Year for his bloody decision loss to Jim Miller.
He returns at UFC on FS1 1 opposite Michael Johnson. It will be Johnson’s chance to break a two fight losing streak.
UFC on FS1 1 is August 17 from the TD Garden in Boston, MA.
