David Rickels spots few gaps in Michael Chandler’s game, so the lightweight No. 1 contender will have to figure them out on the fly.
“I really like being the underdog and not known, not this and that, because I like to show people,” said Rickels to MMA Fighting. “I like people telling me I can’t because it gives me an opportunity to show them I can and push myself.”
In his second tournament outing for Bellator, Rickels took two decisions and a stoppage on Saad Awad to win Season 8. He’s 8-1 for Bellator.
Chandler is undefeated with 11 wins. Since taking Fight of the Year and the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez, he has defended the belt once.
They fight on the main card of Bellator 97. It’s July 31 from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM.
