At the moment, the UFC’s bantamweight division is a mess. Their champion Dominick Cruz has been out for close to two years with an ACL tear and interim champion Renan Barao is coming off an injury. According to bantamweight and featherweight fighter Urijah Faber, the division just needs time to rest.
“I don’t really have an answer to how you fix this division,” said Faber to Bleacher Report. “All you can really do is wait for these guys to heal up and continue to do my own thing in the meantime. That’s what I do. I’m here to compete.”
Faber, who lost to both champions, is currently training for his next fight. In 2013, he’s submitted Ivan Menjivar and Scott Jorgensen with a rear-naked choke. He now meets Yuri Alcantara.
Alcantara is 2-1 for the UFC and coming off a win in May.
They’re expected for the main card of UFC on FS1 1. It’s August 17 from the TD Garden in Boston, MA.
