Boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr., was awarded the ESPY for “Best Fighter” Wednesday night, beating out UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former champ Anderson Silva.
The award, which is based on fan votes, was handed out at the 20th ESPY Awards in Los Angeles.
Jones, who has been nominated before, sent out a congratulations text to Mayweather following news of the winner being named.
“Big congratulations to Floyd Mayweather.. One day,” Jones wrote.
The other nominees included boxers Canelo Alvarez and Danny Garcia. A boxer has won each award since the category was first included in 2007.
