Demian Maia wasn’t able to capture the middleweight title and instead opted for a welterweight drop. His roll has come to a quick halt as Josh Koscheck is out with an injury.
“It’s hard because I was in a phase of strong preparation, but it happens,” said Maia to TATAME. “I hope soon to schedule a fight with someone and not to get too much downtime without knowing what to do. I want to fight soon, win and get closer to the belt.”
Since becoming a welterweight, Maia has won all three of his bouts. This year he earned a decision from Jon Fitch.
They were supposed to fight at UFC 163 on August 3. It’s from Brazil’s HSBC Arena and is headlined with featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. “Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-Sung.
