Khabib Nurmagomedov has continued to excel in the lightweight division and is looking for some top-level opponents. An ex-champion and former No. 1 contender came to the Russian’s mind.
“I have asked for a fight with BJ Penn but I have not received a response,” said Nurmagomedov. “Perhaps they have different plans for him. I wanted to fight someone I watched on TV when I was younger. He is a legend. If BJ is not available I would love to fight [TJ] Grant.”
Penn hasn’t fought since December and his future is uncertain. Grant was removed from his UFC 164 lightweight championship bout due to a concussion.
Nurmagomedov joined the UFC undefeated with 16 wins and has added four more. This year he took care of Thiago Tavares and Abel Trujillo.
None of the fighters have scheduled UFC returns.
