Jon Fitch put loads of pressure on himself for his World Series of Fighting (WSOF) debut, but wasn’t able to leave the victor. He didn’t even get past the first minute mark as Josh Burkman used a guillotine choke to put Fitch asleep. Fitch now understands he made a mistake.
“I didn’t respect the choke at all,” said Fitch on The MMA Hour. “I went to lift right away. There was a moment when he sank the choke in where I made a decision. I could’ve went one way and I’d have defended the choke or I could try to pick him up and slam him and I decided to try to pick him up and slam him. I think it was much deeper than I thought.”
They headlined WSOF 3 in what was a rematch from their 2006 encounter for the UFC. That one, saw Fitch get a round two submission win.
The win kept Burkman undefeated in the WSOF with three wins and a candidate for a future title opportunity.
Fitch is 1-3 since 2011 and plans to fight at least once more this year.
