Dominick Cruz understands that the UFC needs to focus on the interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao, as Cruz continues to sit on the sides.
“I can’t worry about the belt,” said Cruz on MMA Prime. “It’s really not my position to decide whether I keep it because I’ve been injured or whether Dana [White] takes it or whether Barao has it. The belt is there. The bottom line is me getting healthy so I can go out there and do what I do best which is prove why I am where I am today.”
Close to two year ago, Cruz went down with an ACL injury. The first surgery was deemed a failure after a year of work. A second surgery has occurred and Cruz is hopeful the rehab goes as planned.
Cruz improved to 19-1 when he finished Demetrious Johnson in his last title defense at UFC Live in October 2011.
