TJ Grant heard the conspiracy theories that his removal from UFC 164 was planned so Anthony Pettis could challenge for the lightweight title. According to Grant, it was a concussion that led to him withdrawing from the fight.
“I want to do what’s best for me,” said Grant on The MMA Hour. “I want to fight for a long time. I want to live a long time. I want to enjoy my baby girl and all that stuff, so I thought about it a lot and talked to the UFC doctor and all the doctors here. The decision was 100 percent mine.”
Before the injury, Grant racked up five straight UFC wins. There is no time frame for his return.
UFC 164 is now headlined with lightweight champion Benson Henderson vs. Pettis. It’s August 31 and from the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI.
