Ediane Gomes hopes a win tonight at Invicta FC 6 will land her as the featherweight No. 1 contender. At one time, Gomes was set to meet Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in her debut for the promotion. A late injury to Gomes derailed those plans earlier in the year.
“If Invicta offers me ‘Cyborg’ or Coenen, I’m ready for any of them,” said Gomes to MMA Junkie. “If given a chance to win the belt, I’m getting it. I think they would have to offer me that fight. There’s no way around it. I think I’d be the only one who could beat up Cyborg. I don’t think I’m that amazing, but I think my game fits very well against hers.”
The last event in April was supposed to see Gomes vs. Santos before the injury. Santos would go and easily defeat Fiona Muxlow in her return to the sport.
Gomes has won four in a row, which includes a pair for Invicta FC. The latest wins came from Katalina Malungahu and Hiroko Yamanaka. She takes on the 2-0 Tamikka Brentsm later today.
Invicta FC 6’s main card starts at 9 p.m. ET and airs on pay-per-view. It comes from the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, MO.
