Chuck Liddell has been inside the Octagon with some of the toughest dudes in the world. Now retired, the former light heavyweight champion has his eye on the division in a different way.
Liddell sees Glover Teixeira as a real threat to Jon Jones’ belt.
“If you shoot on him, you better watch out—his submissions are legit,” said Liddell during the UFC 162 Fan Expo. “I got even more confidence watching Jones fight Chael [Sonnen]. When he started getting hit a little bit, he decided to shoo. If he does that to Glover, he’s going to be in a lot of trouble. I would be shocked if he was able to stay on top of Glover.”
Teixeira is a title threat as he’s up to four UFC wins with the latest coming from Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and James Te Huna. He’s expected to face Ryan Bader at UFC on FS1 3 on September 4. It comes from Brazil’s Mineirinho Arena.
Jones will attempt to break the division’s record for most title defenses, when he goes for number six opposite Alexander Gustafsson. They headline UFC 165 from the Air Canada Centre on September 21.
