Jewels lightweight queen champion Ayaka Hamasaki will make her second outing for Invicta FC later in the day. It wasn’t the fight she originally had, as the promotion booked her to take on their strawweight champion Carla Esparza. The champion pulled out with an injury weeks back, causing a late change.
“Well, it’s an injury, so there is nothing I can do,” said Hamasaki to MMA Weekly. “I just have to perform well this weekend to secure a fight against Carla.”
Stepping in for Esparza is fellow undefeated fighter Claudia Gadelha. Of her 10 wins, seven have been stoppages with six via submission.
Hamasaki submitted Lacey Schuckman at Invicta FC 2. The pro has nine wins, with Jewels being her regular place of competition. She hopes to win the strawweight belt soon, but admits her knee isn’t the strongest and needs some rest after tonight’s fight
Invicta FC 6 comes from the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, MO. The main card airs on pay-per-view with a 9 p.m. ET start time and is headlined with a Strikeforce rematch in Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs. Marloes Coenen for the first ever featherweight championship.
