Invicta FC 6: Coenen vs. Cyborg will get started on July 13, 2013, in Kansas City, Missouri, with the women’s featherweight championship up for grabs. Marloes Coenen and Cris Cyborg are two former Strikeforce champions who have made a home in Invicta’s 145lb weight class, their first meeting was three years back when Cyborg defended her Strikeforce crown for the first time, stopping Coenen by technical knockout in round three.
Coenen says she underestimated the strong Brazilian when they first met in 2010.
“When I was fighting Cyborg for the first time, I knew she was very strong, but I underestimated her.” Coenen said in a recent video preview. “I’ve never ever in my life been hit that hard. So it was a big lesson for me because after that fight I didn’t give up, the referee stopped it too soon.”
Cyborg has shown to be nearly invincible throughout her pro fighting career, posting an 11-1 record overall. But as we saw this past weekend with Anderson Silva, no one is unbeatable.
Coenen is confident she can exploit some weaknesses in her opponent’s game when they meet for the Invicta featherweight title tomorrow night.
“I believe that the weaknesses of Cyborg are that she isn’t that technical, when you’re fighting her it’s full force, and because she’s so much stronger than the other girls she can get away with the lack of technique and I think if you can overcome that you can beat her.”
