Brian Stann Announces His Retirement From MMA

Brian Stann, a former WEC light heavyweight champion, lined up a new job before announcing he was leaving his current one.

Stann has retired from competing inside the Octagon. He will become part of the FOX Sports ACC college football announce team for FOX Sports South this fall.

“There’s a lot of reasons that have caused me to retire from the sport,” said Stann, who made the announcement on The MMA Hour. “But really for me, it’s the best thing, and more importantly for my family right now. I’m still going to be involved as much as the UFC will allow me to be in the UFC, and continuing to be an ambassador for the sport.”

Stann, a military veteran, finishes his career with a record of 12-6. That includes a 6-5 mark with the UFC.

“As far as competing anymore, as sad as it makes me, it’s not the best thing for me as a husband and a father,” Stann said. “Which by far is the most important thing to me.”
