The UFC middleweight division was looking short on possible contenders as Anderson Silva was disposing of them for years. With Silva no longer the middleweight champion, Mark Munoz sees himself with a slew of others as future title contenders.
He looked a Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping as potential No. 1 contenders.
“After being out and losing to [Chris] Weidman, and Vitor winning the way he did against Luke Rockhold, if I don’t get it, Vitor should be able to get it,” said Munoz on MMA Junkie Radio. “Or me and Vitor might fight for No. 1 contender. Maybe Bisping is up there, too. Or I fight Bisping and we go for No. 1 contender. We’ll see what happens.”
Belfort has two wins this year, both stoppages. One of those wins came against Bisping. The Brit went 1-1 this year and is out with an eye injury. Both fighters have been asking for a title shot, but to no avail.
Silva is expected to have a championship rematch with Weidman. The UFC has expressed interest in making that happen later this year or early 2014.
