UFC president Dana White stated immediately following UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman that a rematch between main event competitors Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman would be made.
Silva, who had just suffered his first knockout loss to Weidman, said he had no interest in a rematch. White, though, believes that the former UFC middleweight champion was just still in shock.
“I’m flying to L.A. next week to go talk to Silva,” said White, in an interview with NBC Sports Radio. “Yes, I do expect the rematch. Anderson Silva is going to get knocked out again by reality in a few days and he is going to want to do this fight again.”
Earlier reports this week from White himself at the match going down in 2013. He backtracked on that, but appears set again on having it take place before the calendar flips to 2014.
“Actually, I’m looking to do the rematch this year,” he said. “There is going to be a rematch. There is no way we don’t do this rematch.”
