Renzo Gracie agrees with many that Anderson Silva was being cocky with Chris Weidman at UFC 162. While Weidman was able to land the knockout win, Renzo Gracie thought he was playing into Silva’s game and nearly tired out.
“The longer the fight the worst it would be to Chris, I was seeing it,” said Gracie to BJPENN.com. “He began to fade, but Anderson didn’t manage to take [the fight] seriously. He began to mock Chris. It was over the top because you can’t belittle your opponent. If you’re confident enough to do this kind of thing go and finish the fight.”
At UFC 162, Weidman was able to stop Silva. It was Silva’s first UFC loss in his 17 fights for the promotion and made Weidman the new middleweight champion. There has been talk of making the rematch for 2014.
Gracie has mentioned a move to lightweight and potential UFC return. His last fight was a first round loss to Matt Hughes at UFC 112.
