UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones had some strong words for Anderson Silva Tuesday during a pre-fight press conference for UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson.
“Bones,” who surpassed Silva in the pound-for-pound rankings after his loss to Chris Weidman, will meet Alexander Gustafsson in September.
Jones was on hand for the Silva-Weidman upset, and believes the Brazilian “abused his gift by disrespecting his opponent.”
“He somehow lost sight of that and paid the ultimate price,” Jones said. “I am not over the Anderson Silva hype train; he just got disrespectful and the war Gods made him pay for it. Anderson Silva is still great in my book.”
Jones will be attempting to break the record for title defenses in the 205-pound division when he faces Gustafsson. He is currently tied with Tito Ortiz at five defenses of the belt.
