Alexander Gustafsson reflected on his experience in his native country as nothing more than a circus.
Gustafsson was forced out of a planned bout with Gegard Mousasi earlier this year after suffering what the athletic commission viewed as a “deep cut.”
Now, “The Mauler” is preparing for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson in September. The two appeared at a press conference in Toronto on Tuesday.
“Was a circus that week; the worst experience of my life,” Gustafsson said. “I have left it behind and my dream fight is coming up; it’s all good.”
Gustafsson will be trying to do what Chris Weidman recently did and knock off a champion that is now considered the top fighter in the world.
“That gives me a spark, motivation,” he said. “Everyone, we are all human beings here and everyone can lose.”
