UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was left just as shocked as the rest of us following Anderson Silva’s knockout loss at the hands of Chris Weidman over the weekend.
Jones, though, believes “The Spider” will eventually realize he wants to wear the UFC middleweight title again and accept a rematch with Weidman.
“I don’t see why he wouldn’t want it,” wrote Jones on his Twitter page Monday. “Outside of the showboating he was looking fantasic.”
Weidman landed a nasty left that wobbled Silva before connecting with another that dropped the long-time champion. He followed up with a pair of strikes on the ground, rendering the Brazilian unconscious.
Jones later took back to Twitter after re-watching the main event, writing, “finally getting a chance to watch the fight (on TV). I must say I was wrong. Chris Weidman fought a beautiful fight. Congratulations.”
“Bones” will next face Alexander Gustafsson in September at UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson. He could have been setting himself up for a potential super-fight with Silva had the upset not happened.
