Brian Melancon Nearly Declined UFC 162 Spot

Brian Melancon hadn’t fought in close to two years and was enjoying life as a chiropractor. When the UFC offered him a chance to join them, he needed to debate it as he already had a promising career away from combat sports and a family to provide for.

In the end, Melancon took the UFC up on their offer and he finished Seth Baczynski at 4:59 of round one at UFC 162. He became the seventh fighter to end a fight at the 4:59 mark.

“It’s a huge sacrifice with a new family,” said Melancon to MMA Fighting. “My career was set as a chiropractor, so that’s what took a little bit of time. I had to leave that job. There was no way I could train and compete at this level.”

The win makes Melancon 7-2 following time in Bellator, Legacy FC and Strikefore.

Since Baczynski returned to the UFC, he’s 4-2. The losses are back-to-back and started in December of last year.

UFC 162 was yesterday, July 6, and came from the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Melancon- Baczynski took part on the Facebook end.
