Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar finally got back into the win column, besting Charles Oliveira in the co-main event of UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman.
Edgar, coming off three straight losses in title matches, used his exceptional boxing to keep the Brazilian at bay.
This was the first three-round fight for “The Answer” since 2009. He fought BJ Penn twice, Gray Maynard twice, Benson Henderson twice and Jose Aldo since for the UFC lightweight and featherweight titles.
“Felt just as hard as a five round fight,” Edgar said. “It feels nice to talk to (Joe Rogan) with a smile on my face.”
Edgar (16-4-1) felt like he was on the wrong end of a decision loss to Henderson last year in a rematch for the UFC 155-pound title. He proceeded to fall to Aldo earlier this year for the 145-pound strap.
As for Oliveira, Edgar said his “toughness” surprised him the most.
“I thought I had him hurt,” he added.
