Frankie Edgar vs. Charles Oliveira

We’ve arrived at the co-main event, as former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (15-4-1) tries to snap a three-fight losing skid against Charles Oliveira (16-3). All three of Edgar’s losses have been five-round decision defeats in title matches. The referee will be Yves Lavigne.

Round 1: Holy cow these two are moving to start. Big right hand by Edgar hurts Oliveira, as the Brazilian pulls guard and goes to the mat. Edgar landing some nice rights, nearly gets his foot trapped, but stays upright thanks to the cage. Edgar lands another right, as Oliveira jumps on his back and pulls guard again. Edgar inside the guard in the middle of the Octagon with three minutes to go. Edgar sticking in his boxing stance, while Oliveira is throwing some solid kicks and flying attacks. Big knee inside the clinch for the underdog, and a straight left followed by an overhand right. Stiff left lands by Oliveira, as does another. Oliveira eats an uppercut to score a takedown off a trip, but Edgar wants nothing of it and stands up. Little blood pouring from the nose of Edgar, but that has become customary for him.

Round 2: Both men right back to the same insane pace set in round one. Exchange of body kicks, and Edgar lands a right to the body. Huge leg kick nearly sweeps Edgar off his feet, but Oliveira can’t follow up. Edgar catches a knee and lands a takedown, right into the guard of the Brazilian. Edgar gets in a few elbows and punches from the top, busting Oliveira’s nose open. Oliveira lands and defends a takedown attempt, as well. Oliveira has Edgar backing up more than usual, maybe he hurt him with a shot late in this round. Edgar bullies his way into a double-leg takedown as the round ends.

Round 3: Oliveira snaps off a couple of jabs, but Edgar’s strike does more damage and has him hurt. Now, here comes Oliveira again with rights of his own. Oliveira with a right combo and lands a knee to the body followed by a series of punches. Stiff left lands by Edgar, as does a right, but once again, the underdog comes back with a right of his own. Trip takedown by Oliveira but Edgar quickly back to his feet. Edgar tags Oliveira with a right, a left, another right and he has him hurt. More rights, and Oliveira has over 90 seconds left to survive. Flying knee attempt by Edgar, as Oliveira pulls guard and eats some ground-and-pound with a minute remaining.
