Mark Munoz rose through the UFC’s middleweight division by using “Donkey Kong” to his advantage.
That means heavy, heavy lefts and rights to the body and head of his opponents.
Saturday night, that’s exactly what Munoz did to Tim Boetsch, earning a win at UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman.
“I told you I was gonna play some Donkey Kong,” Munoz said. “Donkey Kong was gonna show up (Saturday).”
Munoz (13-3) let it be known earlier this week that he went through a bout of depression following his loss last year to Chris Weidman. His weight ballooned and it took him some time to recover.
“This feels amazing right now,” he said. “Thank you fans for supporting me. I really went through depression, and never thought I would.
“I am living prove what you can do with determination, will and desire.”
Munoz landed 160 total strikes, hitting on 90-percent of his attempts. That included 116 ground strikes and four successful takedowns against his fellow Top-10 ranked fighter.
