Edson Barboza made his way to the ESPYs courtesy of his spinning wheel kick finish of Terry Etim previously.
While his victory over Rafaello Oliveira may not follow suit, it did place him in the history books, as Barboza became the first fighter with two TKO finishes via leg kicks at UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman Saturday night.
“That’s my game,” Barboza said. “From my first fight in the UFC (until now); the same thing.”
Barboza, who has lost just once in his MMA career, scored his second straight victory since that defeat. He punished the lead leg of Oliveira, dropping him twice in the second round.
After the second kick, it appeared Oliveira could take no more and referee Herb Dean took notice, calling for the stoppage.
“I feel great,” Barboza said. “I keep training a lot, punishing kicks. Thank God; one more victory.”
Barboza previously stopped Mike Lullo via leg kicks back in 2010 in his UFC debut.
