Luke Rockhold’s UFC debut ended as quickly as it started. Brazil’s Vitor Belfort needed half of round number one at UFC on FX 8 for the stoppage knockout.
“I’ve always grown with my losses and gotten better in every sport,” said Rockhold to MMA Junkie. “This is no different. I’m going to learn from it and move on. It’s hard because I just got caught. It wasn’t like I got beat up or he out-techniqued me. I felt like I was starting to get comfortable.”
Before Rockhold became a member of the UFC roster, he competed almost exclusively for Strikeforce. He was undefeated for them with nine wins and defended their middleweight title twice.
It was Belfort’s second win this year and he’s been asking for another middleweight title shot. UFC president Dana White didn’t see another championship opportunity in the future.
The return of either fighter isn’t known.
