Josh Thomson returned to the UFC this past April and is already preparing for a lightweight title shot. Standing in his way is at least Anthony Pettis.
When Pettis became the lightweight No. 1 contender, he chose to drop down to featherweight as a temporary move. Since Pettis was removed from the featherweight title picture due to injury, his future weight class isn’t confirmed.
“I’m a big fan of Pettis and I have a lot of respect for him,” said Thomson at the UFC 162 Fan Expo. “But I feel like that they hold him on such a high pedestal that he’s the only thing standing between me and a title shot.”
Before Thomson goes any further, lightweight champion Benson Henderson must deal with his next challenge in TJ Grant at UFC 164 on August 31.
Thomson took Knockout of the Night when he defeated Nate Diaz in the third round at UFC on FOX 7.
