Longtime MMA referee Josh Rosenthal will spend 37 months in federal prison based on his guilty plea on several drug charges. Two of the main charges were conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute.
Senior District Judge Saundra Brown Armstrong added three years supervised release and a $100 charge, reports MMA Fighting.
Rosenthal’s Oakland warehouse was raided in 2012 and authorities found over 1,000 marijuana plants. The operation was valued at $6 million.
The now felon was often the third man inside the UFC’s Octagon and was there when middleweight champion Anderson Silva made Chael Sonnen tapout in the final round in a come from behind victory. He was last seen at the inaugural WAR MMA last month doing commentary for a brief time.
The sentence is mandatory with no possibility of parole.
