UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones proved once again Monday that he is constantly on the cusp of what is happening in the world of MMA.
Jones, who is set to face Alexander Gustafsson later this year, responded to remarks made by UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
“Honored to hear the statements Silva made regarding a super fight (with) me earlier,” Jones wrote on Twitter. “Doesn’t change much, still working hard.”
Silva, during a media luncheon, remarked that he believes Jones “is the best” at his weight class. He continued, according to MMAFighting.com, saying, “If I fight Jon Jones, I don’t think I’m going to win.
“Jon Jones is different. He’s large. He’s young. But, in the fight, I see in Jon Jones, I see myself from a long time ago. He’s very smart.”
“The Spider” is set to tangle with Chris Weidman this Saturday at UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman.
A potential super-fight between Silva and Jones or Silva and Georges St-Pierre continues to be talked about should he get past Weidman.
