Often calm, Juniors dos Santos’ blood seems to boil when Alistair Overeem is mentioned. Ever since Antonio “Big Foot” Silva knocked out Overeem, Santos doesn’t seem interested in a match anymore.
“‘Bigfoot’ put him in his place,” said Santos to Fighters Only. “I no longer feel the wish to face him but I fight whomever the UFC puts in front of me. I will train aiming that guy and to be very well prepared to win. The limited fighters, guys who don’t believe in themselves, who don’t dedicate to the training and don’t take it seriously are the ones who make it to call for attention. They do it to hype themselves.”
Overeem was to fight Santos at UFC 160, but suffered an injury. He was replaced by Mark Hunt, who Santos finished in the third round for Fight of the Night and became the heavyweight No. 1 contender in the process.
At UFC on FS1 1, Overeem takes on fellow highly ranked heavyweight Travis Browne. That’s August 17 from the TD Garden in Boston, MA.
Santos takes on champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 166. It’s October 19 from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. They each hold a win over the other.
