Frankie Edgar has spent the last few fights coming up short in close contests. With his loss earlier in the year to featherweight champion Jose Aldo, it made the former lightweight champion 0-3 since 2012.
With a win over Charles Oliveira, Edgar hopes to change everything.
“One step closer toward a title shot,” said Edgar during a UFC.com chat. “I think he’s a dangerous fighter, long and rangy with slick submissions. I guess his slick submission game might be the biggest threat.”
All of Oliveira’s four UFC wins have come via submission. He’s 2-1 since becoming a featherweight and comes off a loss to Cub Swanson.
It will be the first fight since 2009 that Edgar won’t have to compete more than three rounds.
