The UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has called Fedor Emelianenko her favorite fighter and someone she models herself off of.
“My favorite fighter to watch ever I would say is Fedor Emelianenko,” said Rousey during a Metro PCS Facebook chat. “He’s always going to be my favorite. It was the first highlight reel I ever saw of MMA. I loved his style and how he came from a Judo-Sambo background, and I really try to emulate his style every time that I fight,”
Emelianenko was the PRIDE heavyweight champion for years and earned a 28 fight winning streak before taking several losses out of Strikeforce. He retired in June 2012 after defeating Pedro Rizzo in the first round.
Rousey is currently filming as the head coach on The Ultimate Fighter 18. Her opposing coach and future title challenger is Miesha Tate. That bout is expected to happen before the year ends.
