Jake Ellenberger will meet Canada’s Rory MacDonald when the UFC returns to FOX. The two are ranked in the Top 10 of the welterweight division and Ellenberger thinks their bout could dictate the remainder of the year.
“This is a huge, pivotal fight for the welterweight division,” said Ellenberger to Bleacher Report. “It can set the tone for the division going into the end of the year. Then you factor in that I don’t like him, and that should make it fun to watch. I just don’t like him and it’s something I’m definitely looking forward to.”
For the UFC, Ellenberger is 8-2 with losses to Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann. Earlier in the year he earned Knockout of the Night by finishing former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt.
MacDonald will be returning following a back and neck injury. He’s taken his last five with his December 2012 win against BJ Penn being the most recent.
They are the co-main event of UFC on FOX 8. It’s July 27 from the KeyArena in Seattle, WA.
