Mark Munoz was the middleweight No. 1 contender, but never got a chance at the title. An easy loss to Chris Weidman was met by a year of injuries that left Munoz unable to compete.
Not being able to train, Munoz blew to heavyweight status topping off at 260 pounds for a time.
“I was like ‘Fat Bastard’ in ‘Austin Powers,'” said Munoz on MMA Junkie Radio. “My body had to deal with everything that’s going on.”
After a year on the sides Munoz returns against Tim Boetsch. He will look to improve his 7-2 run as a middleweight under the UFC banner.
Boetsch is 5-2 for the UFC, haven been stopped by Phil Davis and Constantinos Philippou.
They are on the main card of UFC 162. It’s July 6 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
