Jake Ellenberger will lock horns with Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle on July 27, 2013. Both welterweights are currently ranked No. 3 and 4 in the 170-pound division, so this clash could very well determine who’s next for Georges St. Pierre’s title.
MacDonald has been on a fast rise to top contender status, despite backing out of every other fight he’s been linked to since 2010.
Ellenberger shares his feelings about his opponent’s name recognition. Also, “The Juggernaut” thinks he won’t be awake for long when they hook ’em up on FOX.
“This is a huge, pivotal fight for the welterweight division. It can set the tone for the division going into the end of the year. It’s a huge fight and there is no bigger place than on FOX. Then you factor in that I don’t like him, and that should make it fun to watch. I just don’t like him and it’s something I’m definitely looking forward to. I love how much the media has pushed him, and that makes it better for me. They like to embellish this young kid. Rather than base things on his accomplishments, it’s more about his potential.”
Ellenberger on the fight with MacDonald:
“This is how this fight is going to go. Buffer screams. Rory runs. Jake swings. Rory sleeps. Crowd screams.”
