Happy Friday, guys and gals. In today’s top stories, Chris Weidman talks Anderson Silva, Stefan Struve chooses his next opponent, and ratings get released from Bellator 96 and the premiere of Fight Master. Plus we’ll link you to a cool interview with Mike Dolce, the fighter turned health and fitness guru who is the nutrition coach to the stars. Here are your headlines:
• Weidman says he’s a bad match-up for UFC middleweight champion Silva and that he plans on pushing the pace when they fight. I hope he doesn’t plan to get in there and wing punches, though, because Silva is the best counter-puncher in the history of MMA. The showdown is expected to go down at UFC 162 on July 6.
• Struve says he’d like to fight MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his next fight. Nogueira had already mentioned Struve as a possible next opponent after he heals from surgery, and Struve has now answered the call via Twitter. It’s all just speculation at this point, but I’d expect to see this one signed sometime in the near future.
• Bellator 96 and Fight Master drew some pretty underwhelming ratings on Wednesday in what could only be seen as a disappointment for the promotion. One problem I see when watching Bellator is that it’s almost too similar to the UFC; the production values and fight quality reminds of when “Ultimate Fight Night” was getting started on Spike back in the day. Hopefully this is only a temporary setback and things will turn around in the near future.
• Dolce is one of the most popular coaches in MMA right now, having worked with top fighters such as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Chael Sonnen. He gives a good interview and I’d recommend you read the whole thing.
