Cub Swanson wasn’t thrilled how Anthony Pettis become the No. 1 contender in the lightweight division to only drop to featherweight for a quicker title shot. He accepted that’s how the fight business works, but thought someone other than the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung should be the replacement for the now injured Pettis.
“The Korean Zombie I just don’t see it,” said Swanson to Bleacher Report. “I don’t think the level of competition he’s faced has been on the level of what [Ricardo] Lamas or I have faced. It’s kind of baffling. I just don’t think he deserves it.”
To his resume, Jung has three bouts under the UFC name. He’s finished all three with Submission of the Year over Leonard Garcia in 2011 topping the charts. Before joining the UFC, Jung lost in his two outings for the WEC.
UFC 163 is headlined with featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. Jung. It’s August 3 from Brazil’s HSBC Arena.
Swanson takes his five fight win streak with him against Dennis Siver at UFC 162. It comes from Las Vegas, NV’s MGM Grand Garden Arena on July 6.
