The day of the weigh-ins for Bellator 96 was expected to see the standoff between Rich Hale and Vinicius Queiroz. That was slightly changed when Queiroz was removed due to a knee injury. Ryan Martinez takes his place in the four person heavyweight tournament.
“I’m looking at this opportunity as a blessing,” said Martinez. “I basically went through a normal training camp and haven’t stopped training. This is a huge chance for me and I’m ready.”
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney confirmed the change Tuesday.
Martinez is 2-1 for Bellator and comes in off an 18 second knockout of Travis Wiuff at Bellator 93.
Hale lost in the finals of the heavyweight tournament at Bellator 84. It snapped his four fight win streak.
Bellator 96 comes from the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, OK. Following the prelims, the main card starts at 7 p.m. ET.
