Stipe Miocic surprised many by defeating a Top 10 fighter in Roy Nelson at UFC 161. 72 hours after the fight and Miocic is still feeling the decision win in his hands.
“My hands are sore,” said Miocic on Verbal Submission. “I hit him hard and he’s got a chin. He’s ranked as one of the top heavyweights in the world for a reason. He’s not afraid to trade shots and he usually takes one to give one and it usually works out for him in the end.”
The win makes Miocic 4-1 for the UFC. Miocic entered the fight coming off a decision loss to Stefan Struve.
Nelson was closing in on a championship shot before the loss. He took the fight on short notice and completed his UFC contract in the process. Both sides have spoken about resigning.
They were the co-main event of UFC 161, which came from Canada’s MTS Centre on June 15.
