Randy Couture looked to keep his Bellator contract a secret until the official announcement at a press conference. When UFC president Dana White started verbally attacking Couture, the former UFC heavyweight champion knew the gig was up.
“Unfortunately, like so many things in this sport, the offer being put on the table leaked somehow and [White] obviously went crazy,” said Couture on The MMA Hour. “It was a done deal at that point.”
Once Couture retired in 2011, the UFC had him work as a broadcaster on several FOX shows. Not liking the direction he jumped to Bellator.
Couture will coach on the first season of Bellator’s reality show, Fight Master. It’s this Wednesday, June 19, and airs on Spike TV at 10 p.m. ET. Bellator 96 starts right before the new show at 8 p.m. ET.
